Day 1: Wellingborough to Inverness


Your journey to the North Coast 500 starts in Wellingborough at Trekker Voyages. Set off early and enjoy a scenic drive north through the Midlands, passing through picturesque landscapes before crossing the border into Scotland. After a full day of driving, you’ll arrive in Inverness, the gateway to the Highlands, where you can spend the evening exploring the city’s historic sites or relaxing by the river.


Campsite Stop: Lochness Shores has great facilities, really friendly staff, and of course, stunning views of the Loch Ness.

Located 40 minutes just outside of Inverness, this peaceful campsite offers excellent facilities and is a perfect spot to rest before starting the official NC500 route the next day.

Day 2: Inverness to Dornoch


After a restful night, begin your North Coast 500 adventure by heading northeast from Inverness towards Dornoch. Along the way, stop at the iconic Chanonry Point to spot dolphins and admire the coastal views. Dornoch, known for its sandy beaches and historic Dornoch Cathedral, makes for a perfect stopover.

Campsite Stop: Brora Club Campsite

This well-situated campsite along the Dornoch Firth offers stunning views and a relaxing atmosphere. Settle in for the evening, and perhaps take a walk along the beach at sunset.

Day 3: Dornoch to John o' Groats


Today, drive along the rugged North-Eastern coastline, passing through quaint fishing villages like Helmsdale and stopping at the magnificent Dunrobin Castle. Continue up to the famous John o' Groats, where you can snap a photo at the iconic signpost marking the most northerly point of mainland Britain.

Campsite Stop: Dunnet Bay Caravan and Motorhome Club Site

Located just a short drive from John o' Groats, this campsite sits right next to a beautiful sandy beach. It's an ideal place to unwind after a day of exploring the northern coastline.

Day 4: John o' Groats to Durness


Prepare for a day of breath-taking scenery as you travel west along the northern edge of Scotland, passing dramatic cliffs and stunning beaches. Stop off at the historic Castle of Mey or visit the ancient Whaligoe Steps before arriving in the small village of Durness, known for its rugged beauty and pristine beaches like Sango Sands.

Campsite Stop: Altnaharra Club Campsite

This popular campsite is perched on the edge of the cliffs, offering incredible views of the North Atlantic Ocean and easy access to Smoo Cave, one of Scotland’s largest sea caves.

Day 5: Durness to Scourie


Take a short but scenic drive from Durness to Scourie, passing through some of the wildest and most untouched landscapes on the NC500. You’ll have plenty of time to explore the area and take a ferry to Handa Island, a nature reserve known for its rich birdlife.

This campsite offers panoramic views of the bay and surrounding mountains, making it a peaceful place to rest. It’s ideal for those looking to immerse themselves in nature.

Day 6: Scourie to Kinlochewe


Today’s drive takes you along the dramatic west coast, with towering mountains and winding roads. Stop at the Kylesku Bridge for one of the most iconic views on the North Coast 500. Continue to Ullapool, a charming fishing town, where you can enjoy fresh seafood or a scenic walk along the harbour.

Peaceful and intimate, Kinlochewe Club Campsite is set at the foot of the rugged slopes of Beinn Eighe, at the end of a beautiful drive along Glen Docherty from Achnasheen.

Day 7: Kinlochewe to Inverness via Beinn Eighe


On your final day of the NC500, head south from through the rugged highlands, passing Beinn Eighe National Nature Reserve—a must-stop for hikers and nature lovers. Take a detour to visit the dramatic Corrieshalloch Gorge before arriving back in Inverness, completing the loop.

End your journey with a night back at this tranquil campsite near Inverness, where you can relax after your epic adventure through Scotland.


Day 8: Inverness to Wellingborough


After completing the North Coast 500, begin your journey back to drop off the campervan in Wellingborough. Reflect on the memories made and the stunning scenery you’ve experienced. You’ll head south through the Scottish Highlands and back towards the Midlands, finishing your unforgettable road trip.

- Book early: Campsites along the NC500 are popular, especially during the summer months, so it’s best to book in advance.

- Pack for all weather: Scottish weather can be unpredictable, so be sure to pack layers, waterproofs, and plenty of warm clothing.
