Day 1: Wellingborough to Folkestone (150 miles) - Start of the Dolomites Itinerary
You’ll begin your adventure from Trekker Voyages in Wellingborough, heading south for a leisurely 3-hour drive to Folkestone to catch the Channel Tunnel. There’s no rush, so enjoy the ride and maybe stop for a quick snack enroute (trust us, road trips are better with snacks).
Once you’re through the Eurotunnel and arrive in Calais, you can start making your way to Luxembourg!
Calais to Luxembourg (260 miles)
You’ll start your European road trip in earnest, cruising through northern France and Belgium before crossing into Luxembourg. It’s about a 4-hour drive, but the views will make it feel like a breeze. Plus, this little country packs in some stunning scenery, so you might want to stop along the way for photos.
Campsite Stop: Camping Kockelscheuer
Located near Luxembourg City, this campsite is surrounded by peaceful woodlands and offers all the comforts you’ll need before a big driving day tomorrow. Take a walk, stretch those legs, and maybe sample some local cuisine.

Day 2: Luxembourg to Lake Constance (Zurich area) (270 miles)
After a restful night, you’ll drive towards Lake Constance on the Swiss-German border, a perfect stop before heading deeper into the mountains. The route is scenic and you’ll get a taste of Switzerland’s famous alpine views as you approach.
Campsite Stop: Camping Hüttenberg, Lake Constance
This lakeside campsite offers fantastic views of the Swiss countryside and is well-positioned for an overnight stop before reaching the Dolomites.
Enjoy the fresh air, and maybe take a dip in the lake or just relax by the campervan with a cup of tea.

Day 3: Lake Constance to Bolzano, Italy (230 miles)
Today, you’ll cross into Italy and drive through stunning alpine passes on your way to Bolzano, the gateway to the Dolomites. The journey is a mix of hairpin turns, mountain tunnels, and jaw-dropping scenery, so keep your camera handy.
Campsite Stop: Camping Moosbauer, Bolzano
Settle in for the night at Camping Moosbauer, a lovely site just outside of Bolzano. This campsite offers beautiful views of the surrounding vineyards and mountains, with easy access to Bolzano’s charming old town.

Day 4: Bolzano to the Dolomites
Time to head into the heart of the Dolomites! Today, you’ll leave the formal campsites behind and enter wild camping territory. Your route will take you through the famous Val Gardena and up into the Puez-Odle Natural Park, where you’ll find countless scenic spots to park the campervan and enjoy the serenity of the mountains.
Wild Camping Spot: Val Gardena Overlook
Find a peaceful pull-off near Passo Sella or Passo Gardena, both of which offer breath-taking views of the surrounding Dolomites. With your campervan’s off-grid capabilities, you’ll have everything you need—electricity, water, and even your own kitchen to cook dinner while watching the sun set behind the peaks. Pure bliss.
Day 5: Explore the Dolomites
Wake up to the crisp mountain air and the stunning sight of the Dolomites bathed in morning light. Today, you’re free to explore the surrounding area at your own pace.
Morning-Afternoon:
Start your day with a hike around the Alpe di Siusi—Europe’s largest alpine meadow. The views are surreal, and you’ll feel like you’ve wandered into a fairytale. There are trails for all abilities, so whether you’re up for a challenging hike or a gentle stroll, you’ll find something to suit.
Evening:
Return to your wild camping spot or explore a new one. The beauty of wild camping is that the whole Dolomites are your backyard, so park up wherever the views take your breath away.
Day 6: Another Day in The Dolomites
Wake up to the crisp mountain air and the stunning sight of the Dolomites bathed in morning light again. Today, you’re free to explore the surrounding area at your own pace.
Plan for the Day:
Drive to Lago di Carezza, also known as the Rainbow Lake. Its turquoise waters are surrounded by dense forests and mountain peaks—it’s a perfect spot for a picnic lunch by the water.
Day 7: Dolomites to Lake Garda (130 miles)
After two glorious days in the Dolomites, it’s time to head south to Lake Garda, Italy’s largest lake and a perfect spot to unwind after mountain adventures. The drive down will offer more scenic passes and a gradual transition from rugged peaks to lakeside beauty.
Campsite Stop: Camping Fossalta, Lake Garda
Right on the shore of Lake Garda, this campsite offers all the amenities you’ll need to recharge. Take a dip in the lake, relax with a glass of Italian wine, and soak up the sunshine. After the crisp mountain air, the warmer climate around the lake will feel like a mini holiday within a holiday.

Day 8: Lake Garda to Wellingborough (695 miles)
Alas, all good things must come to an end—but not before one final scenic drive. Today, you’ll start your journey back home. While it’s a longer drive, the trip is scenic and gives you time to reflect on the epic adventures you’ve had.
Campsite Stop: Back at Black Horse Farm Caravan and Motorhome Club Site
Depending on your timing and energy levels, you might want to stop at Black Horse Farm after crossing the Channel Tunnel and heading back to Trekker Voyages.
