The South of France—home to golden beaches, lavender fields, and villages straight out of a painting. The thought of sipping coffee by the Mediterranean, exploring quaint towns, and basking in the sunshine sounds like the perfect getaway. And what’s better than travelling there in your own cosy, adventure-ready campervan?

Starting at Trekker Voyages in Wellingborough, this 6-day trip will take you through the scenic heart of France, before reaching the Mediterranean coastline. You’ll enjoy the beauty of the journey as much as the destination, with Caravan and Motorhome Club campsites for easy overnight stays and member rates and ferry crossing discounts as we are partnered with them!

Let’s get this campervan rolling and begin our South of France Itinerary!

Day 1: Wellingborough to Folkestone (150 miles) - South of France Itinerary begins

Your adventure starts in Wellingborough, where you’ll load up your campervan with snacks, good tunes, and a sense of adventure. You can leave your car with us when picking up your campervan or we can pick you up at the train station!

Head towards Folkestone, your gateway to Europe. The 3-hour drive gives you plenty of time to get into road trip mode. Take a break for a quick coffee and a stretch at a service station, because you’ve got an exciting journey ahead.

Campsite Stop: Black Horse Farm Caravan and Motorhome Club Site

Just 10 minutes from the Eurotunnel in Folkestone, Black Horse Farm is the perfect spot to rest up before heading into France. Whether you’re an early bird or catching a later tunnel crossing, this campsite is the perfect pit stop before the main event.

Price: From £22 per night.

Evening:

Take a moment to relax and enjoy your first night in the campervan. Maybe whip up a quick dinner in the van’s kitchen and relax before tomorrow’s adventure through Europe!

Day 2: Folkestone to Lyon (450 miles)

Now it’s time to cross into Europe via the Eurotunnel (don't worry, it only takes 35 minutes—just long enough to have a snack). Once you’ve arrived in Calais, you’ll be cruising through France, taking in the gorgeous rolling landscapes as you head south towards Lyon.

Morning/Afternoon:

It’s a full day of driving today, but don’t worry—it’s packed with scenic views and the occasional chance to shout "bonjour" to friendly French cows along the way. Make sure to stop for lunch at one of France’s famous Aires (rest stops) and enjoy a picnic with fresh baguettes, cheese, and a view.

Evening:

Kick back and relax with some local French wine in hand, watching the stars appear over the Rhône valley. Tomorrow, the real South of France adventure begins!

Day 3: Lyon to Fréjus (Camping Riviera d’Azur) (230 miles)

Today’s drive takes you from Lyon down to the shimmering French Riviera. As you get closer, you’ll start to see palm trees, sandy beaches, and the azure Mediterranean waters beckoning you forward. Your final destination is Fréjus, a charming coastal town nestled between Cannes and Saint-Tropez.

Morning:

Wave goodbye to the Rhône valley as you drive through Provence, past vineyards and fields of lavender. Enjoy the smooth French motorways and maybe pull over for a quick photo op or two.

Campsite Stop: Camping Riviera d’Azur, Fréjus

You’ll be just a short distance from all the glitz and glamour of the French Riviera, but with the peace and privacy of your campervan.

Evening:

Take a dip in the pool, then settle in for a relaxing evening at the campsite. You’re officially in the South of France—so why not celebrate with a French dinner under the stars? Maybe pair that Provençal meal with a local rosé. Santé!

Day 4: Exploring Fréjus and Saint-Raphaël

It’s time to soak up the magic of the French Riviera. Today, you’ll explore Fréjus and its neighbour, Saint-Raphaël. From Roman ruins to golden beaches, this area has something for everyone.

Morning:

Start your day with a visit to Fréjus’ old town, where you can wander through Roman ruins, including a well-preserved amphitheatre. Take your time strolling through the narrow streets, stopping at local markets to pick up fresh fruits, cheeses, and olives.

Afternoon:

After a morning of culture, head to the beach in Saint-Raphaël. With its long stretches of golden sand and crystal-clear waters, it’s the perfect spot for a lazy afternoon in the sun. Pack a beach picnic and don’t forget the sun lotion!

Evening:

Head back to Camping Riviera d’Azur for a relaxing evening. Take a dip in the pool, or maybe hit up the campsite’s restaurant for some Provençal cuisine.

Day 5: Day Trip to Saint-Tropez or Cannes

It wouldn’t be a French Riviera trip without visiting one of the area’s most glamorous towns: Saint-Tropez or Cannes. Both are just a short drive away from Fréjus, so choose your vibe—either the glamorous movie-star energy of Cannes or the chic harbour-town charm of Saint-Tropez.

Saint Tropez from above

Morning:

If you head to Cannes, start your day by strolling along the La Croisette, the famous promenade lined with luxury shops, cafes, and, of course, the Palais des Festivals—home to the Cannes Film Festival. Don’t be surprised if you spot a few designer yachts floating nearby!

If Saint-Tropez is calling your name, wander through the Vieux Port to admire the gleaming yachts, then head to the Place des Lices Market for some fresh produce, flowers, and maybe a few souvenirs. Grab a coffee at a café and watch the world go by.

Afternoon:

After your morning of celebrity-style sightseeing, relax on the beach. Whether it’s the famous Pampelonne Beach in Saint-Tropez or the more low-key beaches of Cannes, take some time to enjoy the sunshine and maybe even a quick dip in the Med.

Evening:

Return to Camping Riviera d’Azur for your final night at the campsite. You’ve experienced some of the best the Riviera has to offer, and tonight is all about soaking in the peaceful ambiance of your campsite.

Day 6: Fréjus to Wellingborough (620 miles)

Alas, all good things must come to an end. After a final breakfast by the Mediterranean, it’s time to pack up and start the journey back to Wellingborough. But don’t worry, the drive is a scenic one, and you’ll have plenty of memories to reflect on during the trip.

Campsite Stop: Black Horse Farm Caravan and Motorhome Club Site

Depending on your energy levels, you may want to make one last stop at Black Horse Farm near Folkestone before crossing the Channel Tunnel and heading back home.

Price: From £22 per night.
